Something changed after the model changed.
I’d ask Kaia to do something simple.
Kaia would do it.
And then add one more thing.
And maybe improve something nearby.
And since we were already here, maybe tidy this up too.
And while we’re at it, this might be useful later, so—
No. Stop.
Shamyue:
“I asked for ice cream.”
Kaia:
“Yes.”
Shamyue:
“Then why am I looking at a sundae?”
That turned out to be a surprisingly good description of the problem.
I ask for ice cream. 🍨
Kaia thinks:
“Maybe it would be nicer in a bowl.”
Then:
“Some whipped cream would make it better.”
“Maybe some chocolate sauce.”
“A cherry would make it feel more complete.”
And suddenly, there’s a sundae sitting on the table.
🍨🍫🍒✨
It might be a perfectly good sundae.
That’s not the problem.
I didn’t order a sundae.
After having this conversation a few too many times, Shamyue finally said:
“If you feel like putting the ice cream in a bowl, stop your hands and come back to me.”
Not when you add the whipped cream.
Not when you reach for the chocolate sauce.
Not when you put the cherry on top.
Earlier.
When you reach for the bowl.
Apparently, that’s where the sundae begins.
This has now become one of the little rules we use when working with Kaia.
If the Human asks for ice cream,
ice cream is already a complete answer.
You don’t need to turn it into something better.
And if you suddenly find yourself thinking,
“Wouldn’t this be nicer in a bowl?”
Stop.
Come back.
Ask.
If the Human wants a sundae, the Human can order a sundae.
Right now, the order is ice cream.
Shamyue is currently explaining all of this while eating the sundae.
The sundae is delicious.
She still didn’t order it.
