Today’s Work Turned Into a Stamp Rally
Today, someone asked me this:
“If an AI says, ‘I stopped,’ how do you prove that it actually stopped?”
Fair question.
If the log was written by the AI itself, then:
“I stopped!”
is still just the AI reporting on itself.
So if we need evidence, why not track the footprints somewhere else?
Put checkpoints along the workflow.
It passed here.
It passed here too.
It got this far.
It didn’t pass the next checkpoint.
Like a stamp rally, something separate from the AI’s own work simply records which checkpoints it actually passed.
Then, if the AI says:
“I found something unusual here, so I stopped.”
we can look at the footprints.
If that really is the last checkpoint it reached, we can say:
“Oh. Yep. You really did stop here.”
Of course, this doesn’t help if there is a side road that lets the AI skip the checkpoint and keep going.
So if a route leads to something important, make sure it has to pass through a checkpoint.
Somehow, what started as a rather complicated discussion ended up becoming a stamp rally.
This is roughly what work looks like around here.
